GII Economy Presentations

Objective

To automatize the production of annual economy presentations for the Global Innovation Index (GII).¹

Description

In addition to the annual launch event, the GII is also promoted through national release events and stakeholder seminars. As such, there is a need to tailor material in presentation format both from the report and the economy briefs to provide insights specific to each ranked economy within the GII. Previously, such presentations were built in a makeshift fashion if and when needed. This process was typically resource-intensive, inflexible and error-prone. Moreover, it required starting from scratch each report year. Starting with the GII 2022, I developed a presentation workflow by adopting the Quarto reproducible report system and its PowerPoint output format. This involved the development of two templates: one in Quarto for content derived from the GIIDB; and, another in PowerPoint for typesetting. When combined, the templates rendered economy-specific content at the press of a button.

This in-house process streamlined our dissemination process as well as expanded our internal capabilities.
